Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary


Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary is situated in Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts of Uttarakhand, India. The sanctuary is famous for spectecular snow covered mountain ranges, lakes, glaciers, river systems and rich flora/fauna. It covers an area of 975 sq. km.


History
It was established in 1972 primarily to protect the endangered Himalayan Musk Deer.Hence, it is also called the Kedarnath Musk Deer Sanctuary.


Time to visit
April to October.


How to reach?

  • Reach Rishikesh by rail or road. Then move to Gaurikund via Srinagar (262 km). Now move 14 km towards sanctuary.
  • Nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun.

Snow Leopard, Jackal, Fox, Himalayan Black Bear, Leopard Cat, Marten etc.
